Bobby (pictured front and center) lead the first group of veterans back to Vietnam in December of 1981. At that point the US had cut off all ties with Vietnam and did not have any lines of communication. However, Bobby changed all of that by forcing the two countries to resume speaking. Within two months of his first return trip, the US sent an emissary lead by Rich Armitage. The goals of his initial trip finally came to fruition in 1995 when the US and Vietnam officially normalized relations.
